Case Study

Sculpture for Royal Academy of Art

The Brief

For Royal Academy of Art with HTC Vive.
The bold idea of creating giant 3D prints from Virtual Reality sculptures created by RA Schools alumni Adham Faramawy and current student Jessy Jetpacks.
The final sculptures to be launched at the RAA as a world first VR to 3DP show.

Easily Compatible

We were able to import the 3D files and prep for the giant 3D print process. The strategy was to finally create hand-finished replicas of the 3D art. Creating a polystyrene 3D print, and coating in a finely finished plaster or leaving the polystyrene in its virgin state.

The ability to add slots and cavities inside is a real plus with SuperHuge 3D printing. The slot was added to allow for the corresponding monitor to fit within.

The  SuperHuge 3D Print

The high density polystyrene layers are fused together using our proprietary H-OLM system, ready for hand smoothing. You can see the 10mm resolution - this shows how SuperHuge works better the larger the object is, as it reduces the amount of detail to recover in the smoothing part of the process.

The Finished Sculptures

The Royal academy of Art show was a resounding success.
Supporting artists and new processes is a fantastic way to put SuperHuge to work!
